Derek was like your Erik, when he was 19, he was self employed and had a lot of time on his hands, he was charting with a 13 year old, (set up) and he agreed to meet her in Garland which is about an hour away from where he lived. When he got there and got out of his car the police pounced! He was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a minor.
That is when the nightmare started, call us ignorant of the laws, but we really didn't think they could make this stick, so we got just a regular lawyer. When he went to court they portrayed him to be a monster. He got 5 yrs, deferred adjudication. I thought, OK we can live with that, but didn't know that he would have to go on the Sex Offender list! You can guess the rest! I wish I could say that he did what he was suppose to, but no, almost 2 years later he was at a party and a very active 14 yr. old came to have a good time. She had sex with 3 of the guys that night. She didn't tell her mother, but bragged about it to her girlfriend at church. The girlfriend turned around and told her mom who went to the police. So, my son got picked up and put in jail, considered his second offense so he is now serving 40 years for this offense in the Texas Dept. of Corrections.
